Hi Gregg I use my charger in the 12 volt 10 amp position and I have use lye in the past but it is hard to find now so arm@hammer washing soda works as well. When derusting the part you may need to scrub it once in while and keep soaking it till you like the results some parts I have left in for several days hope that helps. JIm

Hi Jim,
As usual great info! Just as an aside, to remove stains & rust from chrome, take a scrunched up ball of tin foil & dip it in water, then rub the chrome piece vigorously. It will usually bring the chrome back nice & shiny, however it won't remove any pitting. Bob.
